An elderly man shoulders the ends of two thick ropes attached to the Fune Matsuri's (Boat Festival) "boat" - a large wooden sleigh-like float that is pulled through the streets and then three times around the shrine buildings each August 1. This festival is thought to reach back over a thousand years.
